Ms. Hannah Gebhard is a Cellist and Suzuki Teacher currently based in Hartford, CT. Growing up in Saratoga Springs, NY, she started her musical journey at 6 years old on piano and began playing cello in 4th grade. At age 13 she started studying privately with beloved local teacher Susan Nazzaro. Ms. Gebhard attended SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music beginning in 2011 with a major in Music Education. After a summer of non-stop practicing and musical inspiration, she chose to change her major to cello performance, though never losing her love of teaching. While at Crane, she studied cello with Dr. Brian Carter and Professor Emeritus Dr. Mathias Wexler. She was an active participant in chamber music, working with coaches Dr. Shelly Tramposh, Mr. John Lindsey and world renowned pianist, Eugenia Tsarov. She was a member of the Crane Symphony Orchestra, directed by Dr. Ching Chun Lai and the Crane Opera Orchestra lead by Dr. Kirk Severtson. Outside of her academic endeavors, Ms. Gebhard was the pit cellist for multiple productions put on by SUNY Potsdam's Musical Theater Organization and Clarkson University's Theater Company. Ms. Gebhard graduated Cum Laude in 2015 from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam with a degree in Music Performance.
Ms. Gebhard has participated in multiple summer music festivals. Beginning when she was hired as the orchestral pit cellist for the College Light Opera Company in Falmouth MA, learning and performing a total of nine musicals over one summer. She also participated in NYU’s Summer Chamber Music Program where she studied with the renowned cellist Marion Feldman and worked with chamber coach Professor Shmuel Katz. Most recently Ms. Gebhard was able to spend her summer in her hometown, as a counselor at the NYSSSA School of Orchestral Studies at Skidmore College, where she enjoyed mentoring young musicians and coaching two chamber ensembles.
Ms. Gebhard is a recent graduate of the Hartt School of Music at University of Hartford, graduating with a degree in Cello performance and Suzuki pedagogy in May 2018. She studied cello with Professor Mihai Tetel and Grammy Nominated Cellist Terry King. She is certified in Suzuki Cello Books 1-7, receiving her training from Nancy Hair. Ms. Gebhard was a member of the OMT piano quartet, working with chamber coaches Terry King and Professor Paul Rutman. Ms. Gebhard was a member of the Hartt Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Edward Cummings and was the cellist for the Hartt Musical Theater and Opera Department productions while she was a student there.
Ms. Gebhard currently teaches at Music & Arts in East Hartford where she teaches violin, viola and cello lessons. She is certified in Suzuki Cello books 1-7 and teaches both traditional and Suzuki methods. She has been teaching privately for 8 years and has experience with students of all ages and abilities.
In August of 2018, Ms. Gebhard joined the faculty at the Ridgefield Suzuki School, where she is teaching students from pretwinkle level and beyond.
